[edit] The Size of World's Flora

The number of global floras is estimated as 422,000[1][2], or 310,000[3] species, among which 46 to 62% are endemic to a single country. Since the vast proportion of potentially threatened tropical taxa (121,000 species[4]) are endemic to countries in biodiversity hot spots, half the number of endemic species is a good proxy for the number of globally threatened plants[5].
